Haciendo
Comunidad

An innovative vision of urbanism that empowers communities to transform their environment and reduce inequalities

“Haciendo comunidad” is an innovative proposal for local transformation in public housing areas. The model integrates physical, environmental, and social aspects of urban planning through participatory processes. Its goal is to create inclusive, sustainable, and safe neighborhoods, with people at the center of decision-making to improve their living conditions. This comprehensive approach empowers communities by recognizing that those who live in these spaces understand their needs best and should have an active voice in the projects that transform their environment.

Phase 1

Exploration

Mapping the territory
through interviews and informal conversations
with the community

Phase 2

Assesment

Conducting a survey of the Neighborhood Social Cohesion Index (NSCI), and the physical and social needs of the community with regards to public spaces.

Phase 3

Integration

Co-design of projects and a community action plan, implementation of the environmentally focused initiatives, and managing multi-sector partnerships.

Phase 4

Consolidation

Consolidating neighborhood committees and implementing a remote monitoring plan to ensure the project’s long-term sustainability. Second survey of the Neighborhood Social Cohesion Index (NSCI).

In all our projects, neighborhood committees continue to operate and manage their own transformation. Each group stands as a testament to what we can achieve through collaboration, resulting in lasting and meaningful change.

“The park belongs to everyone, not just a few. It’s a gradual process, but it’s our responsibility to maintain it so that everyone can enjoy it.”
