The challenges of social housing:
Segregation, injustice, and abandonment

Most public housing complex are built on the suburbs of cities, without considering the needs of residents or the impacts of climate change. These communities face challenges such as:

Socio-spatial segregation

Lack of essential utilities

Limited access to green spaces

Abandoned housing

High levels of insecurity

Public space: A place to share

Public spaces are gathering spots – like parks, sports fields, and community centers – that should be accessible, inclusive, sustainable, and safe for everyone, especially women, children, and people with disabilities. They allow us to spend time with family and friends, help us feel rooted in our community, and build trust among neighbors. In these spaces, we create supportive networks that help us overcome challenges, such as the lack of care infrastructure.

Public spaces are essential for human development

We transform public spaces into safe, inclusive, and vibrant places., working hand-in-hand with communities and co-designing and co-creating projects that include building infrastructure like community centers and sports fields, as well as murals, and public lighting to enhance safety. We also drive social activation through social events and workshops that promote economic development. Our projects make neighborhoods more attractive to live in, reducing housing abandonment and, as a result, lowering insecurity.

For public spaces to fulfill their purpose…

…urban planning that puts people at the center is essential. We promote community participation in the design and care of spaces through our initiative “Haciendo comunidad” (Building community) where neighbors actively engage in creating accessible, inclusive, sustainable, and safe spaces. This comprehensive approach not only improves quality of life but also strengthens community bonds, fostering lasting and meaningful changes that revitalize neighborhoods and make them more resilient.
